The Portrait Experience

I know sometimes the process can sound confusing, but allow me to explain our entire experience from start to finish… from click to delivery. Feel free to refer back to this blog at any point during your experience just to catch up on where in the process you are and what comes next!

Step One: Consultation

The first and most important step in our journey together is the consultation. This is where we’ll discuss what your vision (if any) is for your session and any ideas you might have. We’ll also talk about your style, what your home décor is like, the tones you prefer, special items to incorporate, cultural considerations, and anything else that’s weighing on you. Regardless of the type of session, I want to have a good idea of you and your family so I can create artwork that will reflect and seamlessly fit into your lifestyle. For family sessions that might include that your daughter has a special bond with dad or that you really like photos of the whole family walking and holding hands. With newborn and maternity sessions it can look more like the colors you like, nursery décor, or a scarf your mom gave you just before she passed away. Nothing is off limits, so if you have something you’d like to highlight, I’m here for it!

Step Two: Session Day

This is the fun part! Likely you’ll start this step by coming to my studio for professional hair and makeup, then changing into your selected dress from my client closet or just lint rolling what you came in. We’ll either caravan to our location or just walk into my main studio area where the magic will happen. Either way, you’ll spend a good hour or two being pampered and relaxing. I will pose you, give you prompts, ask you silly questions, and play games with your little ones to get authentic reactions and genuine smiles—the kind that reach all the way up to your ears! We will part that day with a promise to regroup in one to two weeks for you reveal and ordering appointment, either back in the studio or via Zoom meeting, whichever you prefer.

Step Three: Reveal and Ordering!

This is truly the best part. Getting to see your images in all their glory and selection your artwork and products. This part can feel like it’s going to be difficult, but I’m here to help each step of creating your collection. If you feel like you need to prepare, visit my blog about choosing wall art sizes before your appointment! If not, no worries, we can work it out together! We’ll go through choosing wall art, digitals, and albums one at a time to make decisions seem quick and easy. I only ask that all decision makers are present at the ordering appointment, as orders will be finalized and placed that day, as well as payment being due in full. If you choose a folio box, you’ll be able to take images home with you that day!

Step Four: Delivery

Approximately two weeks after your ordering appointment, I will hand deliver your artwork and assist with installation, if needed! This might actually be the best part, because nothing compares to seeing your images printed in large format fine art. And that’s it! Easy peasy.
